About
Dr. Sunil D Gorantiwar completed his masters from IIT, Kharagpur, India, one of the leadings engineering and technology institutes in India in 1984. Later he completed PhD in 1995 and postdoctoral studies in 2001from WEDC, Department of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University, which was rated as a ‘5*’ in the most recent RAE. The department enjoys an excellent reputation for its research and has strong support from several sources including EPSRC, ESRC, the EU, professional bodies, DTI and industry. Sunil has expertise on simulation modeling and soft computing including classical optimization techniques (linear programming, dynamic programming and integer programming); evolutionary algorithms (genetic algorithm and particle swam optimization), ANN and fuzzy logic; risk assessment and analysis; multicriteria decision making; and GIS and remote sensing.
Currently he is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, MPKV, Rahuri, a leading agricultural university in India. He researched there on irrigation water management and watershed hydrology. Currently he is principle investigator of the ISRO, Department of Space, India sponsored research project on “Land use/land cover dynamics and its impact on Godavari river basin”. He was academic visitor to WEDC, Loughborough University for three years (200-01; 2004-06). During this tenure, he was principal researcher for the DFID, London UK sponsored Knowledge and Research Project on ‘Risk Assessment & Management of Water Quality in Urban Pipe Networks’ and main researcher for EA sponsored “Risk Assessment for Flood Event Management: Phase 1”. He has co-supervised 3 Ph D students on water engineering and currently co-supervising five Ph. D students on different aspect of water in collaboration with Loughborough University, IIT Mumbai, India and Pune University, India.
